Here’s an idea for someone scratching for a way to build your brand and personal network or make a little side income, particularly if you happen to have an interest in real estate.
The idea: follow the most influential 200-400 people in a given industry (real estate being the industry I’m interested in) on both Twitter and Google+. Monitor the daily conversations they are having. Summarize the most interesting and in depth conversations they have on a daily basis. Write 1 post a day on a blog that summarizes and links to all the important conversations someone that cares about that industry should be aware of. Don’t go overboard and post 3 or 5 times a day — you’ll lose me at that point since that’s too much information to wade through. Post the most relevant and insightful stuff, and nothing else.
I’d pay a few dollars a month for that service. Multiply that by a few hundred or thousand, and you have yourself a business. Or just do it to build relationships/brand with all the key influencers in a given industry (and then figure out a way to monetize that network later).
I think this would work in any vertical. In every industry, there are marketing people like me that would like to track all the interesting conversations happening on social media, but don’t want to spend the time to do it ourselves. Go cater to those people with a compelling service.
Just my 2 cents…
