As you may know, ESM Exec Designs is following the One for One movement that Toms has brought to center stage. What does that mean? Pretty simple actually. For every custom website we build, we are buying a computer/laptop for someone in need in the developing world.
I read Toms founder Blake Mycoskie’s book, Start Something That Matters, a couple months ago and was beyond impressed with what Toms has accomplished. Once I decided to branch out on my own, it was a given to implement those same Toms’ values and mission at ESM Exec Designs. At ESM, we are doing our small part to help improve the lives of others. Why? Because we are beyond fortunate to be born into a life in the US where virtually anything is possible. We can accomplish anything we set our minds to. Nothing is impossible. But the world is not a level playing field. Unfortunately, where you are born (largely) determines the quality of your life, and the vast majority born into the world aren’t given an equal chance to succeed in life. My friend Kayla shared this story from her time in the Dominican Republic with me nearly four years ago. Four years later, it STILL puts a knot in my stomach to read it. Every little thing we can do to help level the playing field around the globe is a win in our book.
We know you can buy a custom site from any number of design shops — there are literally thousands of design shops that do great work. But by choosing ESM, know that your purchase of a custom site results in a child somewhere in the world receiving a computer they would not have otherwise. Mary, the first of the girls at St. Monica’s Children’s Home in Kenya to go to college, is the first recipient.
To close, I’ll leave you with a quote from Will Smith:
If you’re not making someone else’s life better, you’re wasting your time.
