Since I am a huge facebook fan, I thought I’d comment on Facebook’s new lay-out. It certainly is a good attempt to thread the privacy needle, but I agree it may have gone too far. The new design basically shows everything you do on Facebook to anyone that is interested (if they are in your network) via a personal news feed, including displaying the fact that someone in your network recently changed their relationship status to “single.” Frankly, I don’t care about everyone in my network enough to want to see what they are doing every second of every day. A good move in my opinion would be to make it easy to add a list of friends that can watch your facebook life, but not give everyone in your network access to your logs unless you specifically give them permission.

Will the gamble pay off? Only time will tell if its users rebel and move on to the next social networking site. Hopefully, Facebook will let users turn this feature off in the future if they want to keep all their users happy.
