I just read an article by Rian van der Merwe titled Making the Internet Better.

A couple quick points.

We are capable of such great things, yet we somehow can’t resist the temptation to tear others apart

Sad. Yet true. I see it every single day on Twitter, Facebook and blog comments. People tearing each other apart when they should be focused on doing something to make themselves happy.

I 100% agree with this quote by Benjamin Franklin, which has been called the best social media policy ever written:

Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Whenever you are in the heat of the moment and tempted to post a comment — get up, take a 15 minute walk, collect your thoughts, and then sit back down. Read your comment again. Then, and only then, hit publish. That was a lesson from David Gibbons.
